Centerstone will work with you to help you be your very best. We offer a variety of mental health services for adults in Madison and Jersey counties in Illinois. Access Services

Anyone can walk in to our Alton or Jerseyville offices, Monday-Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to meet with an Access Specialist. This person will help you figure out the type of help that you might need. They will ask questions to find the best way to help you with your mental health condition or substance abuse issue.

Those with Medicare and/or private health insurance must first pre-qualify for services – please call us at (618) 462-2331 (Alton) or (618) 639-2010 (Jerseyville) or email us before coming in.

Crisis Services

24-hour crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and referral services are available to community members in Madison, Jersey and Calhoun Counties. Call us if you or someone you love needs help. Madison County: (618) 465-4388, Jersey and Calhoun Counties: (618) 639-2016.

Counseling Services

Individual and group counseling services are available. A specially trained counselor or therapist will meet with you during counseling. The goal is to focus on understanding problems and using new skills to solve them. For some problems, group therapy is more effective than individual therapy. Sessions usually last 50 minutes and may have homework. Services are available in Alton and Jerseyville.

Psychiatric and Medical Services

Some mental health conditions respond well to medicine. Through psychiatric services skilled doctors and nurses perform assessments, check your health status, and prescribe medicine to assist in your recovery. In many cases, medicine can help reduce symptoms and help you live a better life. Available in Alton and Jerseyville.

Residential and Housing Services

Centerstone has different housing options to meet different needs.

Residential Homes. Four homes offer adults with serious mental illness the opportunity to develop independent living skills. Staff is on-site 24 hours per day, and residents can remain in the program for up to 24 months. Each resident participates in counseling and life skills training to learn how to take care of themselves. Homes are located in Alton, Godfrey and Jerseyville. Supportive Housing. Theodoro Place provides permanent supportive housing and services to 12 adults who have been homeless. Tenants can access counseling and treatment for addiction on-site. Theodoro has a preference for adults with a serious mental illness. To live here you must meet certain requirements and provide information about your income, homeless status, and background. Theodoro’s goal is to help adults who have been homeless to learn important skills and return to life on their own. Call (618) 465-0120 for more information.

Rent Assisted Apartments. Centerstone also manages apartments with rental assistance in the Alton area where adults can live on their own. These facilities offer permanent housing for single adults with access to services in the community. The apartments have a preference for adults with a serious mental illness. To live in this housing you must provide information about your income, disability, and background. Call (618) 465-0120 for more information.

Senior and Caregiver Services

Older persons and their families struggle with serious issues every day. Services are available in community settings to adults aged 60 and above (Madison County) and to those who take care of seniors (in Madison and Bond Counties). Staff can meet with you in your home to provide counseling, and connection to other community resources, free of charge. These services are funded in part through the Southwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging and the Madison County Mental Health Board. For more information, call (618) 462-2331.

Substance Abuse Treatment Services

Services for substance abuse focus on recovery, which is a process of change through which you achieve health, wellness, and improved quality of life. Recovery supports help you to choose a path that fits your goals and a vision for your life.

DUI Education and Evaluation. Services for DUI offenders include risk education classes, evaluations for court, Secretary of State evaluations, Secretary of State investigative reports, and treatment needs assessments. Through supportive counseling and thorough documentation you can regain your driving privileges. Available in Alton and Jerseyville.

Medication Assisted Recovery. Methadone is a medicine for adults that treats the cravings that go along with addiction to opiates such as heroin or pain killers. Available in Alton only.

Services include:

  • Counseling in individual, group or family sessions to address addiction and other life issues
  • Methadone maintenance treatment, supervised by a physician, to address the cravings and withdrawal issues of addiction to opiates

By engaging in medication assisted recovery you will be less likely to participate in behaviors associated with addiction that are harmful to yourself and society.

Substance Abuse Counseling. A skilled counselor will meet with you regularly to assess the level of your addiction and plan the steps you will take towards recovery. Setting goals and charting progress toward them is an important part of counseling. A belief that change can happen, and having hope for a better future, can help you to focus on a better way of life. Available in Alton and Jerseyville.

Wellness and Recovery Services

Adults with serious mental health conditions can attend group and individual sessions to learn how to do every day things and live life on their own. Counseling and training are offered in groups and via one-on-one sessions. Some services are also offered in the home and community.

The program helps focus and build toward goals and plans for the future. Skilled and caring staff help set goals, provides support and connects to local people, programs and agencies that can help you. Peer coaches and mentors are also available to help you with your recovery journey.

Centerstone provides services at fees that consider overall income. Insurance and Medicaid co-pays are due at the time that services are provided.
